[NRMA Motoring Blog] NSW fine revenue figures | NRMA Motoring Blog | Road safety, road ...: from the RTA there who told me that apparently the law is written in such a way, that even if you physically did not have a chance to see the speed limit sign (for example because it was placed on the stretch of the road before the place where you entered it) you are still guilty of disobeying the speed limit. So I decided to plea ‘guilty with explanation’, because I thought that perhaps I can point out the unfairness of the situation.

[newmatilda.com - Independent news, analysis and satire] Introducing PowerChoices | newmatilda.com: Before the weekend, an email to Labor MPs from NSW ALP President Bernie Riordan - to the effect that those who chose to vote to retain public ownership of electricity assets need not fear loss of their preselection - was leaked to the press. The weekend's vote of 107 in favour of privatisation, 702 against, means that the tables are now turned: those Labor MPs who stand by their Premier and vote for privatisation could find themselves like turkeys voting for Christmas.

[Perenjori Recent items of interest] Hello world! « Perenjori Recent items of interest: Located 348 km north of Perth Western Australia, Perenjori is a little more interesting than most of the northern wheatbelt towns. Apart from the mandatory wheat silos, railway line and hotel with motelstyle accommodation its appeals include a genuinely delightful main street with large stands of gum trees, one of Monsignor Hawes¹ churches (although,in fairness, it is one of the least interesting), an interesting local folk Museum and, 68 km east, the gold mining ghost town of Rothsay.

[drive blog] drive blog: Northern Territory's speedy days are over: Arbitrary speed limits have never saved lives.Road deaths are invariably the result of driver error in one form or another. It's my belief that driver education is the answer to this problem.Currently we teach learner drivers how to pass a license test, nothing more and when they find themselves in an unexpected situation they have no idea what to do,they then become just a passenger. Driver attitudes need to change as well too many drivers both young and old overestimate their ability and end up in situations they can't handle.Compulsory advanced driving courses will help but won't entirely solve the problem.I think in our "time poor" society impatience is a big killer,it causes people to take risks in the hope of making up a few seconds.
