e-mail sucks

![]()
[Ariadne Web Magazine] But as Professor Lee indicates in his introductory remarks, knowledge management is an 'unfamiliar territory' to research libraries and there is no consensus as to how this new approach may best serve them and their users. Nonetheless, digital resources do provide libraries and librarians with opportunities to redefine their roles, to move beyond managing collections print or digital.

Wiki as a knowledge management tool
![]()
[Extacit] There have been many groupware products in the past which have facilitated centralised, web-based document management, but wiki's provide this with the important collaboration layer that web 2.0 enables on top. They are a much more intuitive environment to interact with and will be around for a long time, as your n-generation graduate intake will already be trained in these environments from their own social interactions on the web!

What I think Knowledge Management is
[Knowledge Management (whatever it is)] As I read the various blog entries and listen to the information that we get in all the classes that we are taking I see a key use for knowledge management - since making. A lot of the times we hear information and we do not process it. I believe that km helps the individual grasp aspects of the knowledge that they have or can obtain in day to day situations. For example, in a meeting you would have someone who writes down the notes, questions, decision, and highlights of the meeting. With this information you can now understand how productive the meeting was, wheiter it went off topic, was there something raised that interests you (or the organization), and so forth. All KM is to me is a network of transfering and processing information from various sources to a particular source where it could easily be found and managed.

Revisiting knowledge management, especially on political issues ...
[Bill Boushka] We have a body of law around the First Amendment and free speech, but few people understand the practical challenges posed by the Internet and search engines (the “reputation defender” issue). Overall, when one puts all the issues together in a cake mix, one gets the impression that the way burdens get shared by individuals is an important issue, an idea that was understood a half century ago but that has been gradually forgotten.
