Just thinkin': free MP3 players preloaded with emergency content?
[W. David Stephenson blogs on homeland security et al.] Just thinkin': free MP3 players preloaded with emergency content?Phil Windley was musing this week about whether the plummeting price for non-iPod MP3 players might make it worthwhile for vendors at tech shows to preload them with sales demos, etc. and give them a way.

Accenture Personal Home Improvement Assistant -- disaster uses?
[W. David Stephenson blogs on homeland security et al.] Which, straining the bounds of credulity, leads me to speculating how a new Web 2.0 application for do-it-yourselfers under development at Accenture might apply to homeland security, and, perhaps most important, a pandemic, in which we'd both be confined to home, serving as family caregivers, while still being able to capitalize on the communications infrastructure.

Have a hot technology you want me to consider for top 10 list?
[W. David Stephenson blogs on homeland security et al.] Now I'm in the final stages of picking 10 to watch for next year, but there's still time to email me if there's a device or app that you're passionate about. While I may deviate somewhat, my criteria are still basically the same: also having day-in-day-out applications so that they will both be familiar in an emergency (i.e., not requiring users to have to learn something new when they're already stressed) and will have economic and/or social benefits so their purchase and deployment are more easily justified.decentralized, so they are less likely to be rendered inoperative by attacks on a centralized switching facility, etc.in the hands of the general public, so they leverage technology that is already in use (and, given the inevitable cost and procurement limits of...

Estonia: The E-State Leads the Way on E-Voting
[Information Politics | Home] This article in the EU Observer exploring Estonias approach to e-voting states: “though pilot e-voting projects had already been carried out at local levels in the UK and Switzerland, Estonia leaped to the forefront of the e-voting race in October 2005 when it held the world’s first nation-wide binding local elections using the system.
