[Nick Mudges Technology and Government Weblog] Sixty-five organizations, or 60 percent of all respondents, identified themselves as “advanced” or well underway with implementation, and in many cases, fully operational. An API-Only Business Model?

http://www.softwareas.com [Software As Shes Developed] It seems that many people are talking about creating generic web APIs and handling the entire UI in Javascript. (I’m ignoring whether the API is REST or RPC or whatever for now - that’s a side issue.) That being the case, the browser-based Ajaxian UI becomes nothing more than one of infinite possible clients for the web API.

South Dublin County Council RSS

[BDM | Innovation in Technology Blog] Since all County Councils essentially have the same roles and responsibilities, I’m surprised there isn’t a portal offering that they could subscribe to - the ongoing fee would cover updates like RSS, OPML, moving to Web 2.0, API’s etc. as they are developed - and the company that got the fee would make a tidy profit while having the funds to provide all the CC’s with a great, and constantly improving e-services.

[The Identity Corner] On a number of critically issues, HO’s response rebuts aspects of the LSE report without providing alternative data (for example, on assumptions relating to population data, card loss and damage rates and the card replacement rates due to change in personal circumstances). It is equally disappointing that the Home Office has chosen to disregard the vast majority of the LSE report.

How To Build A Good Airport

loose wire[loose wire] Changi has recently upgraded these facilities but has yet to update its airport maps, so I was aggrieved to find that in my usual spot the number of tables had shrunk, and each was occupied with folk who looked like they were camping there for the summer. There was no one at the information desk but I did spot a feedback terminal, so fired off my complaint, saying folk like me try to transit via Changi because it’s a great place to get work done without having to shell out extra money, and that if I am in Singapore for any reason I try to get to the airport early knowing I can work there.

The Google AdWord Vultures

loose wire[loose wire] It’s interesting to watch how Google’s ”˜Sponsored Links’ capture aspects of the business process, in particular the plundering of customers from a company in trouble. Take CardSystems, for example, facing a class action suit, the loss of its main business and other indignities as a result of the theft of large amounts of credit card data from its vaults. Do a keyword search ”˜cardsystems’ on Google and you get a stream of ads: Let’s ignore the further indignity of two of the ads not being able to get the company’s name right. Where does Google draw the line on this kind of behaviour? Do they allow companies to place ads willy-nilly suggesting problems with their rivals and offering a solution? ”˜Is Microsoft going bust? Switch to Apple while you can’ type thing...

I Want My eGovernment

MarteyDodoo.comhttp://www.marteydodoo.com [MarteyDodoo.com] I found this Washington Post article about the American military’s attempts to entice recruits by allowing them to get rid of part of their service obligation by serving in the Peace Corps (assuming, of course, their application is accepted by the organization) interesting, especially since while opposition to it is just beginning, the program was made into law three years ago: Two longtime proponents of national service programs, Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Evan Bayh (D-Ind.), devised the legislation “to provide Americans with more opportunities to serve their country,” said Bayh’s spokeswoman, Meghan Keck.
