KNOL - a unit of knowledge from Google

KM Consultinghttp://km-consulting.blogspot.com/2008/07/knol-unit-of-knowledge-from-google.html [KM Consulting] I am now far more motivated, enthused and committed to continually extending and improving KNOL articles and contribute more, starting with some links to more inclusive approaches to knowledge management, new perspectives on knowledge asset management, the inevitable drive to more open source knowledge, and the impact of rapidly emerging knowledge tools to support new and disruptively innovative knowledge processes, that will take us all to the next level of knowledge management. The Semantic Web 3.0 is just one example of this.

Has KM died, and resurrected as social computing?

Library clipshttp://libraryclips.blogsome.com/2008/07/21/has-km-died-and-resurrected-as-social-computing/ [Library clips] I don’t need to go back to university and study knowledge management from textbooks when I learn about it everyday in the blogosphere. In fact I bet I would be frustrated and want to take the class, sure the teacher may know the history .

Enterprise 2.0, What, Why, and Knowledge Management

Word of Piehttp://wordofpie.wordpress.com/2008/07/21/enterprise-20-what-why-and-knowledge-management/ [Word of Pie] Too much information can be a problem.  Information needs to be transformed into knowledge.  With structured data, this can be done through reports and business intelligence tools.  With unstructured data, aka CONTENT, this is best done by people tagging and collecting.  As search technology matures, it will be able to do this for us, at least better than it does now.  This is an old-fashioned Knowledge Management goal.

Re: Knowledge Auditing

Business and Management forum[Business and Management forum] Learning about knowledge management should allow me to understand better the needs of my organisation, those that work in my organisation, those that are in some way influenced by my organisation (stakeholders). I am keen to do a good job, but more importantly I am keen to be able to optimise an organisations knowledge management system and would like to have a ”˜box of tools’ available to me to assist me in this interest.

Beyond Knowledge Management #2

Knowledges Interchangehttp://knowledgesinterchange.wordpress.com/2008/07/14/beyond-knowledge-management-2/ [Knowledges Interchange] However, we shall argue, a more important kind of knowledge is tacit knowledge, which is hard to articulate with formal language. It is personal knowledge embedded in individual experience and involves intangible factors such as personal belief, perspectives, and the value system.

An Essay on Knowledge Management

A1essays[A1essays] KM is very difficult mechanism to define that academicians and practitioners take it differently, depending on their interests and disciplines. However, to establish a firm ground to stand on, we would define KM, according to Information Management Journal (2000), as “an interdisciplinary field that is concerned with systematic, effective management and utilization of an organization’s knowledge resources.” To simplify what KM is better, let us use the metaphor made by Meredith Levinson (2008).

Looking Ahead ...

Thoughts on Knowledge Management, and the future of business ...http://atulrai1.blogspot.com/2008/07/looking-ahead.html [Thoughts on Knowledge Management, and the future of business ...] The basic concept of this paradigm being the "democratization" of knowledge creation, dissemination, and absorption. In other words, anyone today can write a blog, create knowledge, disseminate it, and anyone can read anyone's blog, interact with the blog (through RSS Feeds, and Comments), and absorb what the author of the blog is saying (simplistic example).

Weekly Knowledge Management blog by Stan Garfield[Weekly Knowledge Management blog by Stan Garfield] A fascinating, robust and sometimes sharp discussion with Larry Prusak and Dave Snowden on the topic “Is Knowledge Management Dead?” They think that KM as a field has been irredeemably corrupted by the many false plays and hijacks it has been subjected to, while I still have hope. Watch the podcast for the full story, and a million thanks to Larry and Dave for a great conversation.

If I have Content Management do I need Knowledge Management?

Untitledhttp://evergance.wordpress.com/2008/07/01/if-i-have-content-management-do-i-need-knowledge-management/ [Untitled] The importance of the highlighted terms in these definitions must be understood if we’re to build a compelling case for Knowledge Management providing relevancy and that relevancy being of value.  Of particular importance is the term “specific”.  The need for specificity is where Content Management starts to fall short.  If the user wants to read everything available on the history of credit in commerce, or some similarly general topic, then a Content Management system with a basic search engine will supply the need quite well.  But if that person needs to know what, if any, benefit or penalty there is if they payoff their credit balance early they had better be ready for a research project if all they have is the Content Management system that produced their Cardholder Agreement and a search engine.
